I finished my Master in Computer Science with a focus on Life Science Informatics and Computer Vision in Bonn in 2021 and my studies in Human Medicine at Maastricht University in 2026.

Jointly supervised by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Schultz (Visualization and Medical Image Analysis Group, Department of Computer Science II) and PD Dr. Maximilian Wintergerst (Department of Ophthalmology, University Eye Clinic Bonn), I’m pursuing a PhD with the Working Group Wintergerst on “Learning what is relevant: Attention-based analysis of high-resolution ophthalmic images and videos” — researching medical applications of image and video analysis for diagnosis, prognosis and treatment, including smartphone-assisted Diabetic Retinopathy detection and Small Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS) analysis.

Previously, I have worked in various projects for IBM Germany, Fraunhofer Institutes and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) as a software engineer. In the past I also worked as a tutor for software engineering, programming in various languages, machine learning and computer visualizations.

  • Attention-based MIL and transformer architectures for ophthalmic imaging
  • Surgical video analysis
  • Translating computer vision research into clinical diagnosis, prognosis and treatment tools
